https://www.warlight-mtl.com/Welcome to this week's weekly update, in a week that turned out very eventfully. We've had multiple things we considered talking about, but in the end one event stood out far ahead of the others.
Congratulations to Octane for being the newest trophy holder for the MTL!
At the start of the week, the main story going around was MoriOri's impressive 16 game winstreak. Admittedly, returning from a non-join streak tends to result in ideal circumstances for a large winstreak, but there were some impressive wins in there along the way.
Another interesting story has been the Harmony recruitment push, resulting in 7 Harmony players currently on the ladder. The players mostly joined last week, but the fact they're still here now shows that the push has some staying power. Very nice to see, and a shout out to Denna for orchestrating it.
The main story of the week, however, is obviously our new trophy holder. Octane has tried to grab the trophy on many occasions at this point and has gotten close a few times, but the relentless speed and ability of Rufus makes a succesful 10 game string on top difficult to achieve. This attempt was initiated with a round robin from last week's top 3, where Octane picked up wins against both Rufus and tornado back to back on Tuesday. Octane kept a cool head and maintained two games at a time for then though, as the rating gap to Rufus was still small. The belief in the attempt came when Xenophon picked up a win against Rufus Wednesday, creating a 25 point gap. Octane upped to 9 games after this. 4 quick wins Thursday put Octane in a great spot, especially as Juan beat Rufus. Disaster struck Friday, as jache beat Octane, and with 4 games to go, the rating gap between Rufus and Octane dipped to 3 points. A win against Jacoþ thε Restle§°ⁿ³ created some space again, and Saturday saw a mad dash to get the final few wins in, as Rufus picked up a win against master of desaster at the same time Octane beat Beelzebub. An hour later, however, Octane finally clinched the trophy by beating master of desaster himself, and as the bi-hourly update came through, Beren made it official.
The current list of trophy holders is:
Rufus, Buns157, Deadman, master of desaster, Beep Beep I'm a Jeep, Timinator • apex, No.One, Malakkan, Pardon, FiveStarGeneral and Octane.

Thank you for joining us for the player of the week interview Octane, and congratulations on the trophy!
Thanks for having me!
You have been close multiple times, and now you finally did it. Are you relieved, proud and happy, or has this achievement left your future without goals? Since you have now achieved the hardest feat known to mankind.
I'd say you've already perfectly described how I feel. I already knew I was always capable of getting it, as there were multiple times that I had gotten really close, and just needed a few more games to go my way to end up successful. It's all just a matter of execution, racing against Rufus, who basically knows this game like the back of his hand, while also being the fastest player, is no easy task. One thing that you didn't mention though is the bragging rights, now I can finally go around with confidence saying that I'm better than Mori and Tornado, because I have the MTL trophy and they don't. It's a wonderful feeling really.
Bragging rights are important! It has been looking like a two horse race between you and tornado for the trophy, and this week we finally had its conclusion. Do you have any words of encouragement for tornado, now that you have left him behind?
Just keep hacking away at it, all it takes is one really good winning streak to take the shiny golden trophy. Just don't let Rufus get into your head, he can smell his opponent's fear through the computer screen, and he's not the type to show mercy. Don't forget that you'd be letting down your #1 superfan Texx as well, if you ever find yourself losing motivation, just remember he is always rooting for you.
Speaking of texx, and other promising players, who do you think will be the next couple of players to challenge for the trophy?
Outside of Tornado and Mori, who are obvious candidates to be the next MTL trophy winner, I'd say there's a few. Xeno, Juan, jache, PS, Beren, Motoki, alexclusive, Aika, Hergul, and you are all people I can think of who if they improve just a little bit, will be capable of getting the trophy. I'm sure there's some people I'm forgetting, there are lots of really good players who just need to take that next step.
A pretty large field then! Do you plan on joining Rufus in the gatekeeping duty, now that youre exalted among your peers?
You know it. It was not easy for me to get the trophy, so I don't want it to be any easier for anyone else trying to get it. I'm excited to see who the next few challengers will be!
Notable Games:Octane vs Rufus:
https://www.warzone.com/MultiPlayer?GameID=37676286 Neither player had any intel after picks. Rufus seemed a bit better off after getting to 12 in 2 and showing up on a double border to Octane’s +5 turn 3. Octane proceeded to get every prediction perfectly right the next two turns, first defending the double border with barely enough troops while also completing another +5, leaving him at 19 vs 15, before he caught a passive Rufus off guard by defending his double border and not the chokepoint. With enough troops to defend while also breaking Rufus’ bonus on the final turn of the game, the charge for the trophy began.
Octane vs Tornado:
https://www.warzone.com/MultiPlayer?GameID=37572734The second game of the round robin between the trio currently involved in the trophy charge. Octane had intel on 3 out of 4 of tornado’s starts after picks, and Im fairly sure he deduced the last one as well. The game was over in 5 turns with no bonuses broken, as Octane stayed alive and annoying around tornados picks in the east while laying in wait in the west. Fast forward to turn 5, Octane showed 12 income and tornado realized there was no coming back.
Rufus vs Tornado:
https://www.warzone.com/MultiPlayer?GameID=37618396The final game of the round robin was over quickly. The weekly report team joked about how aseridith either takes a thousand years or is over in two turns, and this was a case of the latter. Rufus put the combos higher, resulting in a 2 income lead after 2 turns. This, combined Tornado only having 4 armies to his name in the center, ended the game as quickly as it started.
That's it for this week, if you have anything you want to include in a future update contact me or Ralph
