Warlight Hall of Fame: 6/17/2013 14:45:56

Is there any place where I can browse among the best warlight performances?

I mean, for example the higher ELO points, the most days in 1st position on the ladder, the most tourney wins, etc.

I think it would be very good a Hall of Fame for Warlight.
The only places are the ladders where the performance is transparent, but the problem with the ladders is if somebody becomes inactive his performance will simple lost (despite on that was a brilliant performance).

It is not a Hall of Fame but what do you think about a similar system than in the chess?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIDE_titles

The players could get ranks for their lifetime like in chess.

For example the Master rank is given to everybody who get the first place of the ladder, or reach the 2200 ELO points, etc.

And there could be possible getting ranks by win tourney as well.
I don't know, but for example if anybody win any simple tourney, he can get the Candidate Master rank.

But to get any higher ranks (like Master, International or Grand Master, etc.) should be win special tourney.

I mean for example, that every ranks would have a point value (Candidate Master = 1, Master = 10, International Master = 20, Grand Master =50, etc.) and we can summarize/avarage the points of the participiant of the tourney. And the winner of the tourney get ranks depend on this summarize/avarage points. So getting Grand Master title would be much harder (because the stronger opponents) than Master rank.

Or I don't know, there is much more possibilities to define how can get the ranks.
What do you think about Hall of Fame?
Do you have any idea?

Its an interesting idea, but these rankings are worthless.

HoF is a good idea.

ranks not so great, boots, tournies with dodgy settings etc. will all make results not as worthy.

tournies are much harder to control by wl, maybe have rating for ladder, but they already have that.

Highest ladder-ratings and position are already kept,
not sure why titles would be needed, they'd only complicate thing
(seeing someone is master and needing to know that a master is a first-place-ladder-player instead of just seeing that someone's highest position in the ladder was #1 )

Tournies are player-controlled, visibility of tournies someone played is individually settable, aka you can show up to ten tournies in which you performed on your profile.
Fizzer is already in charge of several ladders, i don't think we 'd want to burden him with a bunch of tournies as well and especially not if winners are gonna be winners "forever" and thus the tournies need to be über-balanced

we already have it: [WM] stands for War Master.
DeadPiggy also shows there is a master race of ladder #1s.
Don't complicate things.

and btw.. most tournaments are worthless. winning [20] tournament is in another galaxy than winning duel map tournament.

When people start to focus on trying to get to number 1 and stop focusing on playing well then they have lost a battle with their ego. It is not healthy to let your self worth become tied to an arbitrary goal. You quickly burn out and stop enjoying the game. I think this has happened to lots of players I played with over the last year. A hall of fame would only encourage that thinking.

You're misdefining a great warlight performance. You think it a high win % over a hand full of games but each game is a discrete "warlight performance". Take a look at old ladder games and good player's favourited games. Achieving the goals you mentioned is about abusing the system and luck.

Master race = sponge..... Why are we even allowing this to continue? Anyone calling themselves the master race of anything deserves to be endlessly mocked.

Tigger stop living off your gf and her parents and go become a productive member of society. God forbid her parents get some common sense and kick you out.

Go become productive and change your name to Tigger and go Bounce Bounce :D

I think the HOF is something more illusionary in this warlight forum

It's the group of people who are remembered by the players. If it so happens that old "legends" might get forgotten this way that might also mean that maybe they just weren't good enough ??

Tigger is now running around the 1v1 ladder with 2 accounts entered at the same time (this must break some warlight rules?). And he still hasn't abandoned his idiotic master race idea.

I nominate Tigger/Master Race aka the sponge for the hall of shame. Congrats my friend

i dont know about the rating and title system you talked about but i do like the idea of a ladder hall of fame
it could be under the seasonal ladder on the list of ladders and dashboard and it could be a list of the best in the ladder with the people that have been 1st longest at the top since the beginning of the ladder

Ok, my ranking system idea goes to the dustbin as usual :)
And it seems if Fizzer doesn't make that, the Hall of Fame will go as well :(

Anyway, I don't understand what is the problem with ego. My english is so poor, but I try to explain my thoughts.
I mean, Warlight is an ego game like every competitive games, no?
And ego needs attention.
If you win an 1v1 (autogames for example) it is a small attention (only your opponent).
If you win a tourney, that is bigger attention (most of the players who participated), if it was a stronger tourney the attention is bigger.
If you are a member and can managed to get the first place of a ladder, that is the biggest attention you can get now in warlight.
But all of these attentions are temporary, couse if you reach the first place of the ladder, and win some bigger tournies (series), but after you go to inactivity (couse no more challange for you) your name is forgotten. Only the few fanatic players will remember you untill they go to inactivity as well. So in the present system the highest reward for the ego is the temporary fame, not so much I think.
Anyway, I don't understand why there isn't a permanent ELO ranking list like in the chess, it would be not temporary.

In other point of view, I simple like to browse among competitive results (football, chess, etc.)
But now I have the following possiblities if I would like to do this in Warlight:
- check the ladders for temporary good players (not the best, bacuse the good players who don't spend time to ladder continuously)
- check the profiles, maybe I find some interesting tourney link (huge time requiered, and I am not sure I can find every important tournies)
- check the forum topics to find info (couse the many spams huge time as well, and couse the deleted threads I can't find everything)
- maybe chat with the veterans for info or I don't know...
So now if you wanted to get these information, you will have to spend a lot of time, and there is no any guarantee you can collect all of them, so hopeless.

For example I read about [20] series or WPA but I cannot find any results. I cannot find the results of old seasons of promotional league neither. And I am sure there is many series I cannot heard anything. So total chaos :)

Ok, I stop to spam here :)
I understood, the only person who can resolve my problem is Fizzer :)
I hope he will invent some good stuff.

the impalleer will be remembered forever for what he did, dead piggy szeweningen, both will be remembered forever as well, lolo will always be remembered for beating traintown in four turns, many people will be remembered on warlight long after they leave

Right now to be remembered, you also need to have some respect from the community ;)

Also, staying a long time in the top of the ladder, although quite an achievement,
basically means you already mastered the ladder and refuse to move on.

ego ...
an ego is a good thing, as long as you don't have too much of it
(just like most other things)
You have to be able to put everything into a game, and when it's over, whether win or lose, laugh about it.

I do agree some records could be kept a bit longer/better, for easier reference,
but i have to add that the current leaderboard is much more interesting;
because they 're of people actually playing right now, not people who played when a lot of other people played(better, worse, how can you tell?)
for example i played a game against tigger a while ago, while he was top of the ladder, he made one or more moves that i usually don't see by opponents,
i couldn't 've played any old legend who doesn't play anymore.

Which gives me an idea, we should have bets(no current valuable money) on warlight-games ^_^

I'd like to see (perhaps only for members - another incentive to purchase membership and makes multi-accounts rarer) an ELO type rating for players. It may only count auto games, but gives a current rating for every member player.

A real time ladder on Strat 1v1 settings would also do the same job I guess.
