...but I think this one is slightly different:
http://warlight.net/SinglePlayer.aspx?PreviewMap=17787
It contains:

  • Almost a thousand territories for long games with lots of players.
  • Use of the seas like you have never seen before on this scale.
  • Kingdoms, sultanates and tribes. Very useful for role-playing! (for everyone out there who hates superbonuses: you can turn them off!)
  • Historic names, all written in the language of their inhabitants (e.g. Byzantion, Moskva (in the Latin alphabet of course))
  • Bonuses that are in multiple superbonuses! That will make trucing a lot harder.

Though it is called Europe 1066 AD, it is not an accurate representation of that age. Most empires are either fictional or have not existed in 1066. It was named Europe 1066 for two reasons:

  • To emphasize it's similarities with Europe AD 1600.
  • Because it was based on the Paradox game Crusader Kings, and in that game you start in the year 1066.

It is currently pending public, as I have already intensively tested it with RvW, Emillio, Min34 and Unknown, and this thread was just created to have it get some attention.

So, if you have anything to say about this map, please post it here, and enjoy playing it!

Swap the names of Syria and Armenia (it will make more sense). Otherwise, very good!

Thanks, and you're completely right. I used this (http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?380692-Listing-of-all-Duchies-Kingdoms-for-CK-1.05-and-Deus-Vult) for the bonuses, and I guess I somehow managed to swap Syria and Armenia :(

Thanks, there are probably a few dozen more of those typos scattered across the map.

And I can be pretty chaotic when it comes to long-term projects. Some times I want to work on this one, and on other times I work on the map of France again.

Well done Moros... its a pretty good map. I like maps that use sea spaces as teritories. I would like to see some nice distribution modes on there.

I'm open for ideas on distribution modes. There are too many kingdoms (read: kingdoms, sultanates and tribes) to set up a distribution that gives each player a kingdom.

I made two distribution modes on a new version. Feel free to give your opinion:

And XFire, what do you mean with empires? I just stated there are too many of empires/kingdoms/sultanates/tribes to give each player one of them.

Fun map. Mind breaking up part(s) of the map to make 1-2 smaller maps? Italy and Greece could be interesting. Western Europe and Scandinavia would make a fun Norman invasion map.

Moros , just saying , you should probably link the ship routes (by the yellow lines as suggested) as it's kinda confusing because Idk which territory in the seas connects to which.

They're connected like every other: Touching borders => Connection

Don't you see all those black lines dividing Sea into "Areas"?

@Lord Fred: If it helps, just realize that there is only 1 ship in each box in the ocean. If the boxes connect, then the ship's connect to that territory/ship.

@Moros:
1) Bonuses for "Fleets" of ships?
2) You have a lot of rivers drawn in, ala the Sengoku map, yet the territories connect across the rivers w/o showing major bridges.
I didn't analyze it strategically/realistically if its good/bad for to have crossings between territories, but just from a visual perspective, they shouldn't connect. There's a major river, a large gap in between, and no bridge. So, perhaps you could research realistically where the major bridge crossings are across the rivers and add them in visually, keeping those connections and while removing other connections.
3) Distributions: I like the "Warzones" Distribution mode in Battle Islands (4?) There's key areas throughout the whole map that lead to a fairly balanced play. Better than a typical warlords distribution where every bonus has a start, and all of the bonuses are similar in size/reward. About 3-4 territories and 2-3 bonus, so it makes it a fair start for everyone. Perhaps you could pick some key areas that would make a decent 2 team distributions where you don't all start on top of each other and noone gets unlucky with the 16 territory bonus.

Sorry Lord Fred100 but I couldn’t disagree more with more. It is very clear which sea territories connect with each other.

There are already lines in the sea which give each ship an area. If the two areas touch then they are connected, if they don’t touch then they are not connected... Simple.

If you just look at the whole ship area then its exactly how land territories work. Yellow lines between ships would just make the map ugly and in my opinion is completely unneeded.

@Chameleon
I could do that. But I want to know if other players agree, because I don't want to do it like Sir Nick and his 30 maps.

@Pooh
1. Do you mean with fleets the Arab, Viking and European ships on the map? I think those would be very hard to obtain, and not worth it.
2. In the original game, you could send armies on rivers to move faster. But as they are too small to fit territories in Warlight, they are purely decorative. They also help aesthetically, so mainland Europe wouldn't be a big blob. I think bridges and river crossing would be hard to find, especially in the Volga. And they would make the map a lot more complicated than it already is.
3. Thanks for the tips, I'll try those out. What do you think of the Large and Small Empires distributions I currently have on the new version I just posted the link to?

Moros:

My "Fleet" bonus suggestion was based on the observation that none of the ships were part of a bonus, and only serve to be transit between different points, which in and of itself is powerful, so I guess ok.

As to the existing distributions: I'm not a big fan of more than 2 team games/distributions. The players on the inside get pinched, the players on the outside do the pinching. Best starts are Large Empires E, G, H, will win most games.

Additionally, it gets complicated... are you playing 8 player FFA? or 2v2v2v2v2v2v2v2? What's good for an 8 player game is not good for a 16 player game because of splitting the mega-bonus.

Also, assuming that the majority of times this is used, a non-member will create the map, meaning 2 of your distributions will be automatically left off, so that leaves a lot of free room for expansion to the unassigned area for its neighbors.

Ship bonuses are a good idea but only for control of an entire sea or multiple straits . Atlantic, North Sea, Baltic sea, Caspian sea, Black sea,West Mediterranean and East mediterranean. A bonus for the straits of Gibraltrar messinia and otranto. These bonuses would make control of the seas more than just a covenient shorter path from A to b

Okay, the next update will contain bonuses for seas, but they will be rather large so people won't start in the sea. Sultanate of Armenia will also be corrected to Kingdom of Armenia.
And Pooh, could you please make a custom scenario of something you'd call a balanced distribution on this map?

Very nice! Now there is a much stronger incentive to take over sea areas. :)
