I really like Cephistokles 'New Gameplay Europe' map (http://warlight.net/Map?ID=6821), so I made a similar one based off my own World Big map.

Basically the idea is no bonuses for territory groupings, instead every territory has it's own income. It does change the game dynamics quite a bit, a lot less tactics are involved - but on the other hand it's great for roleplaying and diplomacy.

The map is done, all that is left is actually assigning a value to each territory. This is a lot of work since I want it to be realistic, based on population, GDP and natural resources. Gonna get started on this in a few days, with the trusted help of wikipedia.

The general idea is:
1 army bonus base for every territory
+1 army bonus for every 10 million inhabitants (700 total for the world)
+1 army bonus for every 100 billion GDP (700 total for the world)
+1 army bonus for every 1% of the world's estimated resources of Oil, Gas, Coal, Iron, Uranium and Gold (600 total)

All these values are approximate.

So as examples

US state of New York: +1 base, 1156 GDP = +11, 19,5 million inhabitants = +2 (rounded up), TOTAL +14
Kuwait: +1 base, 9% of the world's oil = +9, 3,5 million inhabitants = +0 and a GDP of 160 billion = +1, TOTAL +11
Tunisia: +1 base, 10 million inhabitants +1, 100 billion GDP +1, TOTAL +3

Since I did these quickly maybe I missed some resources, those require some research.

Questions:
Any other important resource you think I should include?
Do you think bonuses should have diminishing returns?

Suggestions welcome.

Fantastic idea! I look forward to playing it!

Something to consider would be making more sea-travel options so as to open up the board for any time period. One way to do this is how they are done in the diplomacy maps (This has its disadvantages and not everybody enjoys this) or by just adding actual sea transport routes like in the LotR map.

I like it, it makes WarLight a bit more realistic :)
You`ll have to go for certain points in the world while others are less important, like in a real war.

South & central America are done, and the USA west as well. I've implemented several diminishing returns when calculating the bonuses, first to reduce those resources which are very unevenly distributed (oil, gas) to avoid the Riyadh province of Saudi Arabia and similars having about +30 armies per turn. Also no single resource (including GDP and population) can add more than 10 armies after diminishing returns. And then to the final number again I've added a formula that goes like this: more than 5 armies -1, more than 10 -2, 14-3, 17-4, 20-5, 22-6, 24-7, etc, which means any army over 20 is only worth half as much in the bonus.

Even with all this the bonus numbers are very uneven, but hey I guess it's very realistic and can be fun to play since the big bonuses are more or less spread out across the globe.
