The map guilds first project is Light Earth. Me and Arun currently are trying to come up with the bonus layout. Here's are first drafts we suggested:
Arun's: http://warlight.net/SinglePlayer?TemplateID=450304
Mine: http://warlight.net/SinglePlayer?TemplateID=450339

What do you think? Any suggestions? Your own template would be welcomed, top strategists preferable. Light Earth to clarify is the opposite of Heavy Earth.

We are not making the map yet. First we need to sort out the plan for the map. The templates are custom scenarios of the possible bonuses and values. Once we have the divisions we can make the map.

That's why trying to get people's opinion or a top strategist to make a suggestion of his own. In the format we did.

First - Heavy Earth was made from the Earth map, not the Medium Earth map. Why is Light Earth being made from the Medium Earth map?

Second - Both of your maps have 25 bonuses, which basically means you're just reshuffling the bonuses rather than increasing their size. Medium Earth has 23 bonuses + the 1-territory 0-bonuses. Earth also has 23 bonuses.

Third - if Heavy Earth is the opposite of Light Earth, then Light Earth should have bigger bonuses, but less bonuses overall. I'm not sure I like the idea.

Fourth - your bonuses seem to cut through countries - which doesn't seem quite right, as Earth/Medium Earth/Heavy Earth all follow those borders. Arun's worse off in this aspect but both have this in Russia, China and Mexico.

With that being said I think I would prefer Arun's option slightly more but neither of them seem great. I might put one up myself.

Although, a "Light Earth" would benefit a lot from moving of territories/added connections... Antarctica's awkward because it doesn't function well alone and it doesn't combine very well with other territories.

Assuming you want a map with bigger bonuses, less bonuses, and on Earth (not Medium Earth), well... http://warlight.net/SinglePlayer?TemplateID=451360 would be my idea. Territories marked AN(0) should be combined with neighboring territories. It has 12 bonuses, much less than 23.

I agree with you actually. I'm having second thoughts about the first drafts. To be quite honest I haven't really got the gist of the concept yet. So maybe we should wait for Arun (it is his idea) He said the territories are more dense. So surely that means the bonuses have more territories. So your right. I don't know why are templates are so inaccurate ;).

1. I think Earth is too big, also medium earth is more popular.

2. ^^. Plus do suggest 20 bonuses or even less?

3.

Correct. But I don't see why we shouldn't attempt it :) If you'd make one that would be great, we need better strategy minds on the case.

Edit: Ah great Thankyou, I will look at it in the morning.

Yep that's it. Earth with larger and less bonuses. My draft is slightly too tentative I will be more bold in my next draft; light earth should be different.

I know I'm not in the mapmaking guild but I just wanted to try this:

Edit: I don't have the bonus values, if you decide to use that, they're up to you!

Riyamitie your draft is good but I think it would be better on Medium Earth, also what are the 'AN' territories'. I think maybe 12-15 bonuses would be great.

You don't have to be in the guild to suggest templates :) but you template is another possibility, but I still favour medium earth. Let us try again: http://warlight.net/SinglePlayer?TemplateID=451642 a bit like Riyamitie's but fitted on Medium Earth.

I love Riyamitie's design, not only makes the most geographical sense it has good bonus sizes and strategic points.
I don't think it would work as well on medium earth and I like the idea of combining the AN territories with neighbouring ones.

I guess Riamitie's template describes 'Light Earth' best, and as the majority prefer Earth as opposed to Medium Earth, we should go with your idea. I feel 12-14 bonuses would be great. Mr Oobling your ideas good but I think a separation of Russia is needed and another bonus in Africa. Also you shouldn't split Alaska from America. Taking into account the "most geographical sense" I agree with green. May I suggest this final design, Riya will have full credit on the map description.

http://warlight.net/SinglePlayer?TemplateID=451760 how about this?

Anyway, while I do like some aspects of what you changed, there may be some balancing problems.

1) Antarctica. I avoided making a united Antarctica for a reason, and that reason is because it would be the best bonus on the map. It is the smallest bonus on the map, clocking in at 7 territories, and when taken, only has to defend 3 of them. This makes it one of the best defensive plays. On offense, it can attack Oceania quite easily. My recommendation is to add a few territories to Antarctica (The divisions there are quite arbitrary) and add more connections to Antarctica.

2) South Africa. The loss of the three Antarctic territories I gave it makes it have a measly 8 territories, as compared to North Africa's 12. In a battle between North and South, South would win almost all the time due to taking its bonus faster. I would recommend giving Ethopia and Cameroon to South Africa to balance North/South at 10 territories each.

3) The US/Mexico. Both of our ideas work quite nicely here. Mine tries to fix the awkward East US connections (Which is why it's never chosen) but gives Mexico to the US to add more territories. Yours keeps the awkward East US and gives Mexico to South America. It's still pretty balanced either way, though - just thought I'd give some insight as to why I had AN (discard/combine) territories in the US.

The bonuses work out quite nicely in terms of (poliical/cultural?) boundaries, though - they should be easy to name.

Good point, balancing wasn't my worry at the time ;) Ok I will look into more territory seperation (Antartica). Good suggests elsewhere too I will defiently be taking your advice. I guess we can agree on this final design, I will make it later today and tommorow, then Arun can do his bit.
