Hey everyone!

This thread marks the beginning of a new special WarLight event called The Impaller versus The World. This is a public 1v1 WarLight game that anyone can participate in, as the entire game will be detailed here on the forum turn-by-turn over the next few weeks.

This game is a Strategic 1 v 1 game where one side of the game will be played by The Impaller, who’s one of WarLight’s best players, and the other side is played by you! Everyone in the WarLight community can vote on what move to make in the game, and the highest voted option will be carried out in the game.

Troll will be moderating the game and will create future forum posts like this one every Tuesday and Friday, which is when the game advances to the next turn. Be sure to have your territory selection votes in before the end of the day on Thursday! Look for a new thread on Friday showing what territories we got, and to vote on the next move.

In this thread, please feel free to discuss strategy. Once you're ready, you can vote using the link below.

Note that we obviously can't list every single selection possibility, so Troll has narrowed it down to the top 8. If you feel strongly about an option that's not listed, you can request in this thread for it to be added. I realize we will lose some effectiveness by not being able to list every possible combo, but we'll have to try and make up for it with our collective thinking ability!

The only requirement for voting is that you must be signed into a WarLight account. You can change your votes at any time, but make sure they're finalized before Friday!

So Impaller won't be reading this thread, right? We can discuss strategy in here?

Cool idea.

Couldn't we just vote on territories, not on sets? Because pretty much all threes here have counterpicks where you don't even have to move to block your enemy, and you could easily get some safe fours.

fatguy: You are correct; Impaller will not be reading this thread, so it is safe to discuss strategy etc.

Matma: There is obviously a near endless amount of possibilities for territory selection. The order of the territories is just as important, if not MORE important than the actual territories themselves, which is why it was structured as it is. The goal of this exercise is not to give every single possibility for every turn, since that is near impossible, but to give several possibilities for an overall strategy that the voters can weigh in on via their votes.

I voted for the least popular option -- I liked the last choice. It has the same 1st 3 picks as the most popular choice (#1), but addresses the disaster of Imp countering with South America and surprising us. It's also likely Imp will end up with 1 of our 1st two choices (meaning we'll get #4 and be in a position to counter him).
Any thoughts?

Anyone else have a problem voting? The stars don't show up when I click on them.

I'm also confused by Duke's post about which choice he likes and which he doesn't like.

I think you should reference the picks with a number so that we can reference which one we're talking about

I actually just contacted the vote site admin about this very thing, Ruthless. I am going to see if I can edit the options to display a #1, #2 etc for easy reference.

Please, remember that you can vote on ALL the options! You're merely scoring each one of them individually, and the option with the highest score will be used as orders for the turn.

As per R's post -- I voted five stars on the last choice. Which has been the least popular thus far (although I feel better about it knowing that R picked it too).

As a side note, all options have been randomized in an attempt to remove ordering bias.

I actually screwed up my voting. I just redid the whole thing. I didn't realzie we vote on every option and only picked one.

Oh. So saying you gave five stars to "the last one" is meaningless?

I gave 5 stars to the one with India as choice #1.

Scratch that -- looking at it some more I don't really like that one. Changing votes.

I think I like the current concensus first choice best:

Central America
Antarctica
West Russia
South America
West Africa
India

You don't need to vote on every option. Each option defaults to 0 stars, which is lower than 1 star. Voting 0 stars is appropriate for options you really don't like.

Also, you can revert back to 0 stars by clicking the same star again (it will clear it.)
