I just beat a guy with 763 rating, do my surprise i ended up losing 30 or so points!?

is ok. if you play a player with rating lowert then your about 40% or more, you lose point.
if you lose from him your rating go down a lot.

That seems dumb to me. It isn't like he chose to play that person (if it was a ladder game, it was assigned to him). A win should ALWAYS increase points IMO, even if a very small amount.

your score is kind of an average of the points of the players you defeated (not exactly, but it is simpler to explain like this), that is why most of the players tryignt o go directly to the top 10 are so cautious about the amount of games they play, the sooner they start getting high rank opponents the easier it is to get to the top 10

Makes sense. If the score worked out that beating players with a lower score gave you a small amount of points some people might farm noobs. As iNoob says, that makes people challenge the top players, which is good. Makes it all that more difficult to stay on top I imagine.

Hmm. I'm not sure why that is... Apologies. I have never played in the Ladders. Purely speculation.

When the ladder updates, it re-calculates based on every game that finished, not just your most recent ones. Just because you finished a game and your rating change, it doesn't mean that game was the only thing that changed your rating.

I've never seen a case where a win causes a point loss. Every time someone thinks that, the end result is actually something else that caused the point loss (someone else's game finishing or a game expiring.)

You can prove this yourself by following the instructions at http://wiki.warlight.net/index.php/Ladder_Ranks_and_Ratings. You can see what your rating would be if you hadn't played that game at all.

That makes sense (that a rating adjustment happened later). Like I said, losing points in a win seems odd to me.

you will certainly enter over 1900 points, thats just not a certain top 10 but it still depends on your next few games
