Don't Be A Bastard: The Guide to Forum Logic: 2/19/2012 06:02:51

For those who have not made a forum post, maybe you can learn from my mistakes. Below are the proper ways of expressing yourself on WL's forum. Follow these tried and true conversational skills and you will enter manlove paradise.

*First and foremost, keep your posts short.* Warlighters can't read or think well. They complain if you make them read. It's the age of diverted attention spans and fast-food, after all.

*To enter a discussion, it is best if you just jump right in by attacking, criticizing or making fun of someone else.* "Clans suck" is good for clan-related topics. If you disagree with the writer, using "contradiction," "illogical," or other Latin-based words are great ways to prove that you are in fact more intelligent. Once you make that player upset enough, you can then make it seem that he started the argument.

*Win-lose discussions are best.* This is a war site. If you don't know how to play the game well, at least use good fighting words.

*But if you prefer to just relax, it's better to be loved than feared.* For greater harmony, remember these two words: manlove and bonhommie. The WM leaders prefer homosexual references. This might work for you. The REGL leader and others who don't really know how to play the game prefer to become the beta-male and use sycophantic words such as "I love you man" or "Player for President." Find the style of manlove that works best for you.

*When forced to repeat yourself because your interlocutor can't read or has a lazy mind, do not make jokes. This only proves that you are in fact the stupid one. Beating a dead horse is always better.*

*Misquotes, conflating two people's arguments, and bad logic are best for when you are attacked. Consider them as +5 reinforcements to your IQ.*

*A failure to read and fully understand your interlocutor's words and intent is fine; the important thing is to express yourself at the expense of your interlocutor. Actually making sense is only secondary. When confused about this, revert to bonhommie and manlove tactics.*

*When in doubt, just obstinately disagree.* This keeps your interlocutor off balance. It's like in the game: sometimes standing strong and not doing anything is best, to force your opponent to make a bad move.

*If your topic is particularly sensitive, gossip in your game's public chat, nobody reads those anyway.*

*To close an unfavorable discussion in a fair way, use the Ace style (approved by RvW):* "@ Player, fair enough. Thank you for [appear to agree w/interlocutor], you [insult]."

*Above all, be a man of the people: winning an argument is not about substance; it is about who can win over the least intelligent forum posters.* If the average IQ on WL's forum is 90, speak at that level. Your words will be as good as gold.

hahaha, you got my sympathy.

A general rule about human habits, discovered in antique times and proven countless times in daily life throughout history : The less people understand the more they talk.

They glimpse into a fraction of what lies before them, feel struck by the sudden understanding of a portion of it, compare it to their previous ignorance, feel suddenly smarter, since they asume everyone to be on the same level of ignorance they have been before and then by failing to see their continued ignorance, feel compelled to show the world their tremendous insight and understanding.

So why would the warlight community be any different?

I think you're putting the making sense priority way higher up then it should be.. honestly I think sense should be about 6th or 7th.. otherwise it's just a contradictory to the previous points, and that's highly illogical..

You two are forum pros. Though I got lost trying to read myhand's ideas. Too many commas. I stopped after the first one.

|> First and foremost, keep your posts short.

"Practice what you preach"...

|> If you disagree with the writer, using "contradiction," "illogical," or other Latin-based words (..)

Such as homosexual, beta-male, sycophantic, interlocutor (5x), logic and obstinately? Or are those Greek-based? Sorry, I always get those mixed up.

|> When in doubt, just obstinately disagree.

Wait, wasn't it "When in doubt, keep spamming more forum threads"? Or was it "Keep writing long replies constantly repeating you don't really care"?

|> To close an unfavorable discussion in a fair way, use the Ace style (approved by RvW): "@ Player, fair enough. Thank you for [appear to agree w/interlocutor], you [insult]."

That "[appear to agree w/interlocutor]" isn't very accurate, he said "thank you for addressing my point"; if you insist on using "agree", the closest I can think of would be "thank you for agreeing to disagree".

About that "[insult]"; hey, I never said it was a *great* attempt. Given how heated the argument had already become, I still think that would've been the best place to cut it off. Instead, *you* went for a round of dead-horse beating. But well, I guess you were at least following your own advice there:

|> When forced to repeat yourself because your interlocutor can't read or has a lazy mind, do not make jokes. This only proves that you are in fact the stupid one. Beating a dead horse is always better.

(Apart from the fact that you were specifically **not** *forced to repeat yourself* but had just gotten the perfect opening to *stop repeating yourself*...)

@ RvW, fair enough. Thank you for pointing out my faults and reducing the length of your otherwise long, annoying posts.

Yes you did. Your exact words, and I quote: "Ace made a great attempt to end the discussion."

*Given how heated the argument had already become, I still think that would've been the best place to cut it off.* I disagree. You contradict yourself a bit here and are rather illogical.

*Instead, you went for a round of dead-horse beating.* No I didn't, you did. Try reading the text more closely next time.

The WMs want to sex you up at least. That's a good thing for you.

Funny, when I read it, [it says](http://warlight.net/Forum/Thread.aspx?ThreadID=3047&Offset=20):
|> Sounds like a fair attempt at closing the discussion.

Neither the string "Ace made", nor "great attempt" even appear on that page, let alone in any of my posts. I understand accidental mis-quotes, but this looks pretty deliberate. (Of course, feel free to give a link which shows me wrong...)

Oh, and hate to disappoint you Moros, but I have no political aspirations whatsoever.

attention span and fast food have nothing to do with preference for shorter posts. its because the shit youre talking about isnt worth the time it takes to write or read.

@ X, I disagree. You're WM (Whiteman's Manlove), any chance a sexual reference to your rear would make you feel better?

@ RvW, I thought we settled this already. I said fair enough. I thought that ends all discussions in a fair manner.

Your misquote is from a later post than your "fair enough" (sure, I admit that's just a coincidence, but technically it's true); I'm only replying to what you said after you re-opened the discussion yourself.

Coincidence or not, you said it, RvW. I disagree that I re-opened the discussion. I closed it. You opened it. Now we are recycling it.

(I've run out of ideas from the Guide.)

And your clan sucks RvW!
